Why is my tablet screen black?

Deborah got a new tablet when she renewed her contract with AT&T, but she's getting what's called a black screen of death where the screen isn't displaying anything. Leo says that what's probably happening is the screen brightness has been turned down to zero. Leo suggests a system reset. She should hold down the power button and then hold down the volume up button. That should get the tablet into a recovery mode. One she's in that recovery screen, she can do a complete factory reset.

Leo says to go into the Settings -> General -> Usage settings and he should see how many songs he has. It should be app specific and Apple has been moving stuff like this to settings now.

Why can't I use Gmail with Windows Live Mail?

Julia is having problems with Windows Live Mail, which is rejecting her Gmail. Leo says that Julia needs to check her settings to make sure the server settings are properly configured. Make sure that IMAP is enabled in GMail's settings. She could also use POP, but Leo says that IMAP is better. GMail will also give her step by step instructions to set it up as well. Leo recommends turning on two factor authentication. There may be an app specific password she'll need once she turns that on, though.

Is there a noticeable difference between a 1080p computer monitor and a 720p monitor?

Richard wants to know if there would be a big noticeable difference between a PC monitor that is 1920x1080 and a monitor that is 1366x768. Leo says it is, if Richard's daughter is really accustomed to a 1080p screen, but a 1366x768 monitor is still considered "HD." Leo doesn't like the lower resolution displays because he's used to higher resolutions, but as a student, Richard's daughter should be fine with it. Leo recommends just getting the PC with 1366x768.

How can I get my old email onto my new iPhone?

Evan got an iPhone 6 and set up his Outlook account. However, the folders that he has set up appeared without the emails that were inside of them. Leo says that Outlook uses Exchange and it should get duplicated, but it could be stuck. He should try removing it and adding it again. It may also be that the older emails won't show up since the OS doesn't want to overwhelm the phone by downloading thousands of emails. There may be a setting in email that would allow him go to back and get the older email.

How do I keep Facebook from using all my text messages?

Leo says that's been a common complaint since Facebook took messaging out of the original app and forced users to message using their Messenger app. Leo says go into Facebook settings and turn off mobile notifications. It's buried deep in the settings. Go into settings -> Notifications -> Text messaging -. TURN THAT OFF. That will save your text messages.
