Johnny was invited to a new event by Uber, launching their new Visa card. It's the only credit card you can actually apply for in the app itself. What makes the Uber Visa interesting is that it has no annual fee, and has up to 4% cash back on food, travel, and online purchases.
Johnny just came back from speaking at a conference in Carnegie Hall, which is a really cool experience. Johnny's son Jack got sick and he used a website called Baby Doctor in New York, who came to check on him at the hotel. $250. And then the doctor texted for follow ups all night long. It's a great site for families on vacation.
Another cool website - PeerSpace.com. It's AirBnB for events, so you can book events all over the world.
Fall is a great time to visit back east because all the foliage is turning into beautiful reds, oranges and yellows. Johnny Jet is in New York and enjoying the turning of the foliage in Central Park.
Delta has added automatic checkin to its mobile app, including downloading the boarding pass to your phone. But Johnny Jet says that sometimes it doesn't work so it always pays to have a printed backup, or you'll have to wait until everyone boards before they let you on. Delta also says that the best time for booking holiday travel is coming up within the next few weeks. So if you want to fly for Thanksgiving, buy by Nov. 1st. Sometimes you don't want to buy too far in advance because it can be very expensive.
Johnny Jet is back from traveling and he's feeling a bit jet lagged, but he believes that jet lag is a state of mind.
App of the week - FairFetch.com. It's an app for iOS and Android to help you find a good cheap fare. Input where, when and the price you want to pay. They'll then find the fare and book you. But once it's booked, there's no refund. If they can't find it, then you can try again at another price point. So it's like Priceline. It's also crowd worked.
Johnny says that if you fly a lot, enough to gain frequent flyer miles, it's best to stick with a single airline that you can build miles with. But if you fly infrequently, then shop around for the best deal when you do. He also says that if you get asked if you want to upgrade to "premium economy," it's a big scam. Johnny also says that airlines are now charging for gate check-in of luggage at $25 a bag or more. They'll also charge you to print your boarding pass.
Travel tip of the week - Bring a snack. You never know if the plane is going to be delayed.
Johnny Jet is in Texas for the opening of the NFL at Cowboys Stadium, plus he's going to a Rangers game as well. There, he found out that ballpark nachos were invented at Arlington Stadium.
